Dare to play - ludum dare - part 4
Put It Out
If you ever wonder what life of fire extinguisher looks like, now you don't have to. This game puts you in shoes of sentient fire extinguisher on a office chair. You move by blowing in the opposite direction that you desire to relocate to. And of course you have to put out fire, which spreads! Game is very enjoyable and visually pleasant. Gameplay is just right and it is perfect for those winter evenings when you want to just chillout for a while. It's worth mentioning that this game was made in just 48h! Author provided binaries for GNU/Linux, Mac OSX and Windows. There is also Web version.
What happened to Michael?
At first glance it looks like generic point and click adventure, straight from early 90's. But as the story unveils you start to feel like you need to slap yourself for jugging book by it's cover. And the cover is really misleading, alien abduction and couple of way too familiar FBI agents (especially if you had grow up in the 90's and had a TV). The story that this game is telling is quite somber and definitely touches serious subject. To be honest, story on it's own does not hold up, as it is kinda generic sad story but the strength of this game is in how this story is being told, both on visually and structurally. If you are going to play it, which I recommend, you will get what I have in mind. But there are some not so great things about this game. First one: there is no way of speed up dialog. It is mildly frustrating to go over same conversation, just because of miss click (other players noticed that too). The other one is soundtrack on part where you play as FBI, I found it bit annoying but this is not a deal breaker. I totally recommend this game, please try it. There's a walkthrough but I encourage you to not to use it on your first play. Game is available on Windows, Mac OSX and there is browser version too.
Ring of Fire
This is sort of generic dungeon crawler. You are brave young barbarian that needs to prove himself by entering deadly fire cave and trying to find Amulet of Dollarone and get back. On your way to the amulet you need to battler other barbarians tasked with same quest as yours. There's also a loot to pick up while you are questing. Game is fun, I played it for couple of rounds, but there is a room for improvements. First and foremost, graphic. It looks like bunch on placeholders crammed together. There is also lack of animations, game would certainly benefit from bit more of eye candy. Also the pickups are too small. I had hard times noticing them, especially if you don't play in the full screen. Second, the controls are whacky, sometimes character moves two fields, but you swear to yourself that you hit button only once. This is really annoying if you are passing tight passages over sea of lava. Music is ok but nothing really memorable, but the killing sound. At first it's really annoying but later you will find yourself actually enjoying it, it will grow on you. Author only provided browser version of this game.
